Terms & Conditions
These terms govern access to and use of the Cobalt Quill newsletter and website. Please read them before subscribing. By submitting a subscription request, you indicate that you have read and accept these terms.
1. About Cobalt Quill
Cobalt Quill is an editorially independent newsletter covering structural and operational themes in the legal industry. It is published by the editorial team operating from 5/F, 88 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. The publication is distributed by email to subscribers and is not affiliated with any law firm, regulatory body, or professional association.
2. Subscription Tiers
Cobalt Quill offers three subscription tiers. Each tier is described in full on the Solutions page. Subscription fees are stated in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) and are subject to change with reasonable notice to existing subscribers.
Weekly editorial email. No behavioural targeting. Same edition distributed to all subscribers.
Weekly edition, monthly long-form essay, full archive search, and quarterly round-up letter. Renewed annually.
Internal distribution for organisations with a defined seat count, a per-organisation landing page, and an annual editorial briefing call.
3. Payment and Renewal
Subscriptions are billed annually from the date of activation. Renewal invoices are issued no less than fourteen days before the renewal date. Failure to pay by the renewal date will result in suspension of the subscription until payment is received. We do not offer automatic recurring billing without your explicit prior agreement.
Refunds are issued at our discretion for documented billing errors. We do not issue partial refunds for periods already served. Requests should be directed to [email protected] within fourteen days of the charge.
4. Permitted Use
A subscription entitles the named subscriber to read each edition for their own professional reference. Unless you hold an Institutional Distribution Plan, you may not forward, republish, or distribute the newsletter to others — whether in whole or in part — without written consent from the editorial team.
Institutional Distribution Plan subscribers may distribute editions internally to the agreed seat count only. Distribution outside the organisation, or to a seat count exceeding the contracted number, is not permitted without a revised agreement.
Quotation for journalistic or academic purposes is permitted provided attribution is given as: Cobalt Quill, Issue [number], [date].
5. Intellectual Property
All editorial content published by Cobalt Quill — including written analysis, editorial commentary, the selection and arrangement of topics, and structural elements of each edition — is the intellectual property of the publication. The Cobalt Quill name, masthead design, and logo are protected marks. You may not reproduce, adapt, or build upon this material for commercial purposes without prior written consent.
6. Editorial Independence
Cobalt Quill maintains full editorial independence. Coverage decisions are made by the editorial team on journalistic grounds and are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or the subject organisations of any piece. No fee is accepted for the inclusion, modification, or omission of any editorial content. Organisations mentioned in the newsletter receive no prior sight of copy.
7. Accuracy and Limitation of Liability
Each edition is prepared with care. Content represents the editorial team's analysis at the time of writing and is provided for informational purposes. It does not constitute professional advice of any kind. Readers should not act on the basis of any content in Cobalt Quill without obtaining independent professional advice appropriate to their circumstances.
To the extent permitted by Hong Kong law, Cobalt Quill accepts no liability for loss arising from reliance on editorial content, delivery failures, or service interruptions.
8. Cancellation
Subscribers may cancel at any time by writing to [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Access to paid features continues until that date. Institutional subscribers may also cancel by written notice to their designated editorial contact.
9. Modifications to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated to active subscribers by email no less than fourteen days before taking effect. Continued subscription after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. The current version is always available at this address.
